FORMER Fiji snooker number one Deepak Jai Ram won the Fiji Bitter Fourth National Ranking Championship at the Lautoka Club last night.
Ram defeated Jiten Prasad 4-1 in the all-Nausori Club final.
The scores were 57-39, 54-18, 66-25, 1-54 and 57-45
This was Ram's first rankings title win in two years.
The Nausori pool shop owner dedicated the victory to his family.
"I'm happy to win after a long time," Ram said. "I would like to thank the host clubs, the sponsor and the national body. I did not practise much for the tournament but I felt very good on the table. From next year I hope to practise more and lift my standard."
In the semi-finals, Prasad defeated Praneel Singh 3-2 and Ram beat Viliame Umu 3-0.
In the quarter-finals, Umu defeated Vinesh Prasad 3-0, Ram beat Mahend Deo 3-2, Jiten beat Yogendra Prasad 3-0 while Singh beat Roheet Nand 3-2.
Sahil Prasad won the B Grade. He beat Isireli Kaci three straight frames in the final. The scores were 80-52, 63-33, 52-25
In the semi-finals, Sahil beat Ravi Narayan 3-0 while Kaci beat Raman Lal 3-2.
Billiards and Snooker Association of Fiji president Riffat Bhatti said there was a lot of movements in the rankings after the tournament yesterday.
"Yogendra, who was number one in the A Grade, dropped down because he failed to make it beyond the quarter-finals," Bhatti said.
"Jiten, who was number three, shot up to the top just by qualifying for the final. It was an exciting tournament."
