LEARNING to speak Hindi is more than just understanding what happens in Bollywood movies.
It is learning how to save our culture and traditions from dying out.
This was the view of the co-ordinator for Hindi Studies at the University of Fiji, Suklesh Bali.
According to Mrs Bali, there was still demand to learn Hindi and interested young people were going out of their way to learn the language. "One of the main reasons we have hosted this is to show how unique the language is," she said.
"Every year, there are about 200 students who come over to celebrate with us and these are the students who learn Hindi with us every year. There is a lot of interest shown by these young people to learn the language and they are also spreading the word about the importance of learning Hindi."
Hindi Day will be held at University of Fiji on September 14 starting at 9.30am.
