ASSISTING the local communities through development projects is one of the initiatives taken by the Outrigger on the Lagoon Resort in Sigatoka.
General manager Peter Hopgood said the resort was committed to improving the lives of locals along the Coral Coast.
He said members of the community played a vital role in the success of the tourism industry which prompted the resort to assist the locals.
"We have experienced record occupancies, record turnover and, more importantly, we now employ over 640 staff at the resort," said Mr Hopgood.
"It means a lot to our local communities and whilst I personally get enormous satisfaction from these results, it is the work that my team undertakes with our local villages that makes me so proud. This is all part of the resort's bula spirit."
"Some of the projects completed this year include the re-fencing of Conua School, installation of a new playground for the Sigatoka District Hospital, arranging a blood drive for the Sigatoka District Hospital, hosting vets from New Zealand to treat our local horses, hosting Shane Gould and Milt Nelms to facilitate our Drowning Prevention Program with all of the youth in our local villages and schools."
Mr Hopgood presented $1000 to the community at Dreke Village for winning the Cleanest Village competition in the province.
