THE husband and wife team of Shayne and Torika Brodie are only four races away from capturing gold at the Pacific Mini Games in the hobie cat competition.
They lead a pool of seven teams after crossing the finish line with seven firsts and one second.
With nine points to their name and their closest competitors, New Caledonia, 13 points behind, the two are in the driving seat of the competition. Races resume tomorrow and they will aim to extend their lead.
The team of Grahame Southwick and Apimeleki Tuicaucau is the other Fiji side competing in the event and they are fourth with 27 points.
The sailing competition also continues on Monday with Charlotte Taylor, Sulueti Rauqeuqe, Michael Chan and Robert Hazelman in action.
Chan and Hazelman have a one-point lead over Papua New Guinea for the bronze medal.
"Competition so far has been tough and tricky," he said.
"New Caledonia and the Cook Islands have been dominating the competition so far."
The four have six races left before the competition ends on Wednesday.
"We have given it our best so far and we will try even harder next week.
"We would love to return to Fiji with a medal."
Chan, 19, and Hazelman, 20, have been competing together for the past three years.
