THE Pacific Games Council will have its general assembly today and one of the topics that will be discussed is the addition of Australia and New Zealand in the Pacific Games.
Both countries were invited to participate in sailing and weightlifting at the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna.
Only the Australia sailing team made the trip to the island.
Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee president Reginald Sanday said the topic was not new and he had inherited it from his predecessors.
"Their inclusion has been on the agenda for many years," he said.
"The ministers deliberated on it on (last) Sunday and we will take into consideration their points when we meet this Sunday (today)."
He said they have to look at the Pacific Games charter and whether the inclusion of the two nations would benefit the participating countries.
"The charter is about the games providing a chance for Pacific Island nations to connect and bring them together and to keep the flame of culture and friendship alive in the Pacific.
"Will their (Australia and New Zealand) inclusion contribute to it or not?
"Hopefully, if doesn't douse that flame."
Sanday added some Pacific Island countries had the depth and strength to compete with the two nations in some sports.
