WOMEN from the Western Division were acknowledged for their contribution to floriculture in the region by the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday night.
The women who were part of the annual floriculture show in Lautoka were judged on the decorations and arrangements of the flowers they grew.
Permanent secretary for the Agriculture Ministry Ropate Ligairi said floriculture was an important aspect of the agriculture sector.
"Floriculture is a growing sector and it is encouraging to see more women join this sector," he said.
The big winners of the night were the women from Cicia Island in the Lau group.
According to the ministry, the women from Lau have been at the forefront of floriculture, which has been an important aspect of the island's organic status for many years.
The ministry has been encouraging the promotion of floriculture because of tourism and Mr Ligairi said more women should join the growing industry specifically for the tourism market.
