WOMEN of Nacuru Village in Rewa will have a place to meet and express their ideas with the opening of a women's centre.
Minister for Women Dr Jiko Luveni opened the Nacuru Women's Centre on Tuesday in the hope that it will allow women to explore opportunities for an improved livelihood.
A statement from the ministry said $5000 was put forward to fund the construction, following a visit to the village by the minister last year. Dr Luveni said the women had shown "great potential" in sewing and embroidery designs. The women also received two sewing machines.
"The opportunities go beyond income generating. It is a place where women will come together to express their ideas and discuss their challenges and make decisions on the way forward," Dr Luveni said.
Village spokesman Eremasi Gonenicava thanked the ministry for investing in their women.
"The opening of this centre is a result of Dr Luveni's visit last year and she has truly inspired the women and men to work together for the betterment of our community," Mr Gonenicava said.
