THE Fiji Red Cross Society (FRCS) is preparing for the upcoming cyclone season, with pre-cyclone briefs to be held at its 15 branches this month.
FRCS disaster co-ordinator Eseroma Ledua said the pre-cyclone brief was to reinforce disaster response procedures for volunteers at the branches.
"We will meet with stakeholders and the branch, do the initial disaster assessment, logistics, look at the stocks they have and how we can support them financially for the coming cyclone season," Mr Ledua said.
The FRCS has been running disaster risk reduction (DRR) programs around communities in the country in the last two months.
"These DRR programs cover not just cyclones, but flooding, tsunami evacuation, and so on."
He said DRR programs covering the Northern and Western divisions had been conducted, and were ongoing in the Central Division.
He said FRCS hoped to cover the Lau Group by the end of the year.
The cyclone season is from November to April.
