A SURVEY of people with disabilities began this week.
The plan is to place those who are unemployed on a register to enable assistance in securing a job.
Under the umbrella of IDEA — the Include Disability Employ this Ability program — the survey is being conducted by the Disabled People's Organisation.
Funded by AusAID's Human Rights Grants Scheme, the information collected is designed to identify the skills, qualifications and education needs of persons with disabilities.
This week, the Psychiatric Survivors Association — one of the organisations working under the IDEA program — conducted surveys in Tavua, Rakiraki and Lautoka.
The association will conduct follow-up visits this month to register as many people as possible.
"We strongly encourage all persons with disabilities to fill in this survey," said IDEA's survey manager Kolinio Laisenia.
"We want to hear about peoples' experiences and we especially want to hear from people who are looking for jobs."
