THE Chookrun individual stroke event at the Fiji Golf Club course in Vatuwaqa today will serve as a perfect build-up for the prized weekly tournament tomorrow. The Chookrun sponsored by Goodman Fielder (Fiji) Limited is played every Fridays. Club acting manager Jerry Tuisorisori said the event provided golfers with a chance to prepare themselves for Saturday's tournaments. Tuisorisori said they were expecting more than 120 golfers in this Saturday's tournament sponsored by Tappoo Group of Companies.
Cook Island 7s team
THE Cook Islands rugby 7s team is working hard to get its overseas-based players together for the Fiji Water International Centennial 7s in Suva next month. Coach Chad Tuoro has earmarked 24 players based in New Zealand, Australia and the Cook Islands for the tournament to be held on October 4 and 5 at the ANZ Stadium. He said the players would train individually and be monitored remotely on their progress. "The final squad of 12 will be selected based on the reports I receive from their individual trainings and fitness testing," Tuoro told fru.com.
Locals pass test
THE 33 Fiji-based rugby league players that underwent the drug test on Monday are clean to play for the national side. Fiji Residents assistant coach Sonny Blake said the tests came out negative and they were happy with the commitment of the players. "We are happy with the result and the players are ready to play in the Fiji Residents trial match on Monday (next week)." Following the trial match at the Suva Grammar grounds at 2pm, the Fiji Residents team will be selected to play in the Battle of the Bati against Australia Residents on September 19.
