THERE are no plans at this stage to salvage the sunken boat of the late Tui Macuata, Ratu Aisea Katonivere.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said that as far as investigations into the incident had gone, there was no need to salvage the remains of the sunken boat.
"The need to carry out this exercise may come later as investigations proceed but at this point we do not see a need to do so," she said.
"We understand that the families of the late chief wanted to submerge the boat and they have all the right to do so.
"From our end we do not see a need to carry out this exercise."
Ms Naisoro said an investigation into the tragedy was continuing.
Ratu Aisea died at sea after his boat sank outside the Naudri waters while on a fishing expedition with close family members on April 19.
