THE inconsistent supply is affecting sugar production in the three mills on Viti Levu, says FSC executive chairman Abdul Khan.
He said while mill operations had improved significantly, the same could not be said of the raw material supply.
"The Penang, Rarawai and Lautoka mills are doing quite well," he said.
"The three mills have processed just over 503,000 tonnes of sugar cane and produced 51,300 tonnes of sugar at a tonnes cane to tonnes sugar (TCTS) ratio of 9.8.
"However, the mills have not been able to meet scheduled crush targets because the supply of sugar cane is a real factor, and we are well below our forecast volume of cane that should have been processed by now."
Mr Khan said the inconsistent cane supply was a serious impediment to achieving crush targets.
