SCHOOLS that are withholding free bus fare vouchers from students were warned to refrain from such practice or face disciplinary actions.
Education Ministry permanent secretary Dr Brij Lal said the free bus fare scheme was still 100 per cent operational.
"I am warning those schools and people that are holding tickets that we can take strict disciplinary actions against schools," he said.
"We have given the tickets to be used, not to be kept and stored."
He said school principals had an obligation to collect the tickets from respective district education offices for distribution to the students who were eligible to use them.
The free bus fare scheme was set up by the government in 2009 which allow students whose parents' collectively earned $15,000 to receive assistance.
