TAKING time out to serve the community was the goal for 13 student volunteers of the Fiji Red Cross Society's Tavua branch as they cleaned up Tavualevu Village last week.
Branch president Praveen Naidu said the clean-up was organised so the volunteers could know how to better serve their community.
"This campaign was organised as an awareness program about proper and wise disposal of household and other man-made rubbish," he said.
"Our main focus is the environment and how we as individuals or communities can reduce the effects of climate change, thus promising a better future for upcoming generation.
"Our community was very helpful as the Tavua Town Council assisted us with the proper disposal of our collection and Tavua Medical Department supplied safety gloves."
On Saturday, the group held an awareness campaign about NCDs.
"We had an NCD awareness walk organised by the health team of the Tavua Red Cross Society," Mr Naidu said.
