ANIMAL doctors from the Commonwealth Veterinary Association are in Nadi to discuss sustainable animal health production over the next four days.
The 15th Australasia Oceania CVA conference was opened by President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau who urged delegates to assist the Pacific region in maintaining livestock sustainability for the future.
He said the Pacific faced many challenges in national development, including meeting the demands of its people through the use of resources that were at times scarce.
"The consumption, and therefore import of livestock products from dairy products like powdered milk, ice cream, cheese, yoghurt and meat and leather, are increasing steadily right across the region," he said.
Fiji imported $68million worth of dairy products last year while animal and meat product imports reached $67million.
