THE Mineral Resources Department has identified a new borehole site for residents living on the South side of Taveuni.
This comes as a sigh of relief for about 500 residents who have been without proper water supply for about a month.
MRD director Malakai Finau said they had identified an old borehole in the area that would be a suitable water source for residents.
Mr Finau said the identified borehole was old and needed cleaning.
He added the new site had been made known to the Water Authority of Fiji which would handle the details.
Efforts to get comments from WAF's spokeswoman Fulori Turaga proved futile.
However, last month she confirmed with this newspaper that they were working with MRD to identify a new water source.
Villagers of Vuna had resorted to fresh water springs to cater for their water needs. Some of these springs sat along village shores and villagers would collect water during low tide.
Vuna villager Temalesi Qali said the spring, which was exposed at low tide, supplied them water.
