THE Jetsetters created history by winning the women's title of the FMF Inter Club Hockey Championship for the first time at the Nadovu Park in Lautoka yesterday.
The Jetsetters upset favourites Marist Suva 1-0 in sudden death extra time.
Bessy Lauta proved to be the star for the Jetsetters after scoring the winner in the second spell of sudden death play.
Marist had earlier topped the women's round-robin competition.
Fiji Hockey Federation development officer Tai Smith said the Jetsetters pulled off a major surprise. She said this was good for the sport.
"This is the first time that the Jetsetters have won and I'm thankful to Luisa Matanisiga for her leadership," Smith said.
"She has kept the club going and also Anna Lee who has always been there. She is a national rep and now she is giving back to the sport.
"The tournament was a grand success. We would like to thank FMF for backing this tournament. It is one of the tournaments that the clubs look forward to every year.
"It was surprising to see many young players participate. There are a lot of young players coming through the secondary school system.
"The Lautoka and Nadi clubs were dominated by the youngsters. It is really heartening for me to see this happening as a development officer.
"The next event is the Marist tournament. Hopefully all the clubs will be participating."
In the semi-finals, Marist hammered Rebels 4-0 while Jetsetters beat Lautoka Old Girls 1-0.
Lautoka Old Girls was placed third. The side defeated Rebels 3-0.
Ventures won the men's title. The side beat Mates 2-0 in the final.
Tevita King and Leevan Dutta scored the goals for the Suva club.
Ventures defeated Marist 3-0 in the semi-final. Joela Saini, Sam Veitamana and Dutta scored the goals for Ventures.
Mates beat Stingers 1-0 in the other semi-final.
In the third place playoffs, Marist beat Stingers 2-1.
