A TEAM from the LTA headquarters in Nasinu has been dispatched to Vanua Levu to audit all bus companies there.
Authority CEO Naisa Tuinaceva said the team would conduct a thorough audit and inspection of all buses in the Northern Division
Mr Tuinaceva said four of the six grounded busses belonging to Dalip Chand and Sons Limited were still being inspected.
"The buses will only resume normal operations once we are satisfied that they are roadworthy and safe to carry passengers," he said.
"It has come to our attention that many busses that are operating in the country do not carry out any fitness test or adopt the standard maintenance system for their buses.
"Most bus companies failed to carry out checks on their buses and maintain the standard maintenance system."
Mr Tuinaceva said most bus companies did not maintain their buses after the last inspection carried out by the LTA.
"We carry out our inspections on a six-month basis or at the end of a year but this does not mean that bus companies refrain from carrying out their own checks and maintenance works.
"It is the duty of the companies to ensure their buses are up to standard and is safe to carry passengers.
"This will leave us with no choice but to crack down on bus companies and start charging them."
