THE beautification and development of Lautoka is one of the main priorities of the Lautoka City Council and ongoing projects are proof of this.
The recent upgrading of the produce trade centre opposite the Lautoka bus stand has been hailed as environmentally conscious.
Special administrator Praveen Bala said the area, named Namoli Green, had been neglected for many years so they decided to make it beautiful for locals and visitors.
"We have designed some shelters for the juice sellers and resting spots for customers.
"We have also added some fountains for beautification purposes and rubbish bins will be placed strategically as well.
"So far, 50 per cent of the work has been completed.
"This is a very important spot not only to locals but also to visitors because this is where everyone comes and gets off after travelling.
"We wanted to make it appealing for everyone."
Mr Bala said work was continuing and he expected it to be completed soon.
