SPECIAL administrator for Ba/Tavua Praveen Bala told women who had organised their handicraft display at the Ba Shopping Arcade yesterday he would talk to the Minister for Trade and Industry to issue certificates to them, in recognition of their efforts to make handicraft items.
The women from rural and urban parts of Ba gathered at the Ba Women's Display and mini bazaar to showcase their talents of art and craft making.
Mr Bala said government placed a lot of emphasis on micro financing and opened doors to a lot of opportunities through the Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation.
"The municipal councils are also trying their best to assist rural women to uplift their living conditions by providing accommodation and other amenities so that women market vendors feel comfortable and secure while away from their families," he said.
"As we join hands to mark this day, I encourage all of you to take advantage of various opportunities being offered by government partners to assist you in elevating your status in society."
He said their contribution to the education of their children was noted.
