WHILE families around the country celebrated Father's Day yesterday, a father decided to give residents of the Golden Age Home in Natabua, Lautoka, a special treat by providing them lunch.
Ashok Kumar, a lecturer at the Fiji National University (FNU) Natabua campus, said it was a very emotional time for him.
"I got promoted last month at FNU so I thought of giving my first fortnightly wages to the needy people and that is why I have done this," he said.
"This coincides with Father's Day celebrations as well."
Mr Kumar said 44 residents were served lunch.
Meanwhile, members of the Soroptimist International (SI) also arrived at the Golden Age Home to spread some cheer yesterday.
SI Fiji president Zareena Bi said they hosted a morning tea for the residents.
"We try to be a part of all their major celebrations and we were here for Mother's Day as well," she said.
"We decorated the place and we had morning tea with them. The male residents have also been given a shirt each from S Nagindas.
"There are donors for the whole day and they are being served lunch and dinner as well."
SI Fiji has been a part of the development of the Golden Age Home including the renovation of the kitchen and dining room.
