A FEW days after the Methodist church clergy was challenged to respect their wives because they were godsend helpers, the Fiji Police Force has acknowledged the valuable contribution a wife offers her household.
Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Ioane Naivalurua said police wives have been the unseen strength behind propelling the Fiji Police Force forward.
He made this saluting remark at a thanksgiving lunch yesterday as he acknowledged the tremendous support of police wives to the organisation, through their husbands.
He thanked the wives for their continuous support that enabled his men to carry out their work.
"For every police officer, whether in the front line, in the mission area or performing support role, your valuable contribution in making sure all is well at home has been the essence of their success and that of the organisation," Brig-Gen Naivalurua said.
Fiji Women's Crisis Centre director Shamima Ali said statements like this made by the head of the Police Force, like the Methodist Church, was a great achievement.
"Everybody coming on board is instrumental when you bring about change. This is what we are seeing because last month, August, was our 29th year of existence and only now we are seeing (change)," Ms Ali said.
