THE Mates hockey team will be out to win the FMF Inter Clubs Championship in Lautoka this weekend to spice up their silver jubilee celebrations this year.
Mates have roped in players who participated in the secondary schools championship in Levuka recently.
Veteran player Ernest Coffin will spearhead their campaign.
Mates Club executive Martin Coffin said the younger players would play a vital role for them.
He said their target was to win the tournament ahead of their 25th anniversary championship in November.
"We have drafted in players who played for Natabua High School, Tilak High School and Saint Thomas High School. The youngsters like Owen Smith, Apenisa and Lote will be the ones to watch," he said.
Other teams that will participate in the men's division are Marist, defending champion Ventures, Stingers, Falcons, Rockefellers and Rebels. Marist, Rebels, Jetsetters and Lautoka Old Girls will play in the women's division.
Meanwhile, Fiji Hockey Federation development officer Tai Smith said they were expecting an exciting competition in the two-day tournament.
She thanked Flour Mills of Fiji for the timely sponsorship and the Lautoka City Council for providing the tip top venue.
FMF on Thursday donated $800 to help the federation pay for the expenses incurred in hosting the tournament.
