THE Fiji triathlon side finished in third place during the Pacific Islands Triathlon and Cycling Championships in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea over the weekend.
The national side was the defending champions after winning the regional title for the first time last year in Suva. Team manager Andrew Pene told Radio Australia's Pacific Beat program before the competition that he was concerned the humidity and wind in PNG would affect the team.
Fiji was unable to maintain its consistency despite a strong line-up which included veteran Yee Wah Sing, Andrew Pene, Petero Manoa, Lui Pene, Lavinia Dickinson, Toma Pene and Nau Dakuliga.
PNG finished on top followed by Guam.
The triathletes were competing over an Olympic distance, which is a 1.5 km swim, a 40km bike ride and a 10km run.
