A US citizen with a love for music has returned to his homeland for the release of his new ghazal album.
Mohammed Shaan, formerly of Varoko, Ba, came to Fiji for a vacation and decided to compile some songs recorded in Fiji and the US into an album made available for the public through South Pacific Recordings (SPR).
"Singing is my passion and I did perform some shows when I was living in Fiji some years back," he said.
Shaan moved to California, US in 2000 and is working as a radiology tech assistant.
"I released my first album in 1991 and since then, I have released a number of albums.
"In the early days, there was a lot of competition and it was challenging for us to meet the expectations of the public but support from family members and particularly my wife got us through."
The 52-year-old said apart from the latest album, he was working on three more.
"All these albums will feature original songs and I will also try and conduct some shows here.
"In the US, I perform at various shows and it is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with upcoming musicians."
Shaan said his latest album, titled Gulbadan, was released on Monday this week and was looking to have the album released in the US.
"My musical career started in Fiji therefore I thought it would be much more meaningful if I released my album here."
