THE tragedy of August 28, 2008 may be forgotten by many but for the villagers of Naevuevu, the day is significant to the vanua.
It was on this day that 12 lives were snatched away by death in a horrific bus fire that occurred along the Queens Rd adjacent to the village.
Village headman Asesela Yamoyamo, 49, said the day would always be remembered by villagers who witnessed the 12 victims perish in that fire.
He said the incident was now an annual event for the villagers where they gathered around the grog bowl to commemorate the day.
Mr Yamoyamo said the news of this tragic incident would always be the talk of the village, especially for those who were at the site.
He said the villagers would gather on Sunday to remember the victims.
