THE assistant Commissioner of Police, Inspector General Isikeli Vuniwaqa, has pleaded with the people of Kadavu to restore pride in the province.
Addressing the chiefs and delegates at the final day of the Kadavu Provincial Council meeting in Suva yesterday, Mr Vuniwaqa revealed that Kadavu recorded the highest number of sexual offence cases in the Southern Division last year.
"Kadavu Police Station recorded 51 per cent of the total rape and attempted rape cases in the Southern Division, with a total of 96 cases reported," Mr Vuniwaqa said.
"This is a real worry for the Fiji Police Force and should be for the people of Kadavu."
He challenged the chiefs and delegates to take a more assertive stand in the fight against crime and illegal activities on the island.
He also stressed the importance of working together to curb the increase in sexual crimes in the province.
"We continue to receive reports of marijuana cultivation and peddling.
"However, as our officers can't be everywhere, we are here today to plead for your support by working together in ridding the island of these crimes.
"Let's work together to bring pride back to what Kadavu is known for."
