THE Naitasiri Rugby Union has named a new coach to guide the team to its Farebrother-Sullivan trophy challenge.
This is after the non-performance of head coach Sailosi Naiteqe Sr this season, says NRU chairman Peceli Rinakama.
The union has named schoolteacher Eroni Vereivalu as the new head coach.
Yesterday, Rinakama informed Times Sport that Naiteqe is no longer the coach.
"We want the public to know that Naiteqe has been relieved from his duty," he said.
"The board has made a decision for him not to coach the team again. We have given him his letter to inform him that he is no longer coach."
Rinakama said Naiteqe had failed to respect some of the regulations of the team.
He said the vanua of Naitasiri was shamed by the poor performance of the team this year.
Rinakama said Naiteqe needed to accept his termination letter.
Yesterday, Times Sport received a list of names from Naiteqe to prepare for the challenge on September 21.
Rinakama said Vereivalu had his own list of players to prepare for the Farebrother-Sullivan trophy match.
When contacted yesterday, Naiteqe said he had received the letter.
He said he had informed Naitasiri high chief Ratu Inoke Takiveikata of the decision taken against him.
"Yes they told me to rest," he said.
"I was not there with the president when they made the decision.
"I have received their letter and I've taken it to the Qaranivalu (Ratu Inoke).
"I was given three years on the contract but now they have terminated me after only my first year as coach."
He said he would wait on the Qaranivalu's decision on his fate as coach.
He added the NRU officials had asked him to apply for the vacant coach's position after the resignation of Reverend Joji Rinakama.
