Update: 1:45PM CRUSHED limestone is a key agricultural input that can reduce soil acidity and improve agricultural yields.
And according to Fijian Holdings Limited chairman Iowane Naiveli, the launch of a brand new agricultural product by Basic Industries Limited, Aglime, would bring a lot of benefit to farmers and stakeholders.
"The use of Aglime for treatment of acidic soil is a common practice in many countries. This has not been the case here in Fiji for various reasons," he said today.
"It is pleasing to see one of our own subsidiary companies taking on the challenge of manufacturing Aglime here at a fraction of the price of imported Aglime."
He said the locally-made product could be a catalyst to realising the full potential of the agriculture industry.
The product was launched by Minister for Primary Industries Colonel Inia Seruiratu in the presence of acting Australian High Commissioner Glenn Miles and the Wailotua landowners at the Civic Centre in Suva.
