THE 17-member Fiji Residents side to play in the Battle of the Bati next month will be named next week.
A total of 34 elite players from the Fiji Residents squad took part in the trials yesterday at Bidesi Park in Suva.
Assistant Fiji Bati coach Jo Rabele said they had identified some players from the Vodafone Cup final last weekend where the Sigatoka Roosters beat Saru Dragons 27-18 at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
"The trials went well. We had made some selections during the grand final and this was the trials for the rest," he said.
"We have picked 25 players from this trial and they will go for medical and drugs test on Monday after which we will name 17 players for the Battle of the Bati."
Rabele said the first major training session for the 17-member squad will be at the Sigatoka sand dunes next week.
The Battle of the Bati will be used to select a final squad the Rugby League World Cup that will be played in England in October.
The Fiji Bati face England, Australia and Ireland at the RLWC.
National Rugby League players Sisa Waqa, Marika Koroibete, Lote Tuqiri, Petero Civoniceva, Sims brothers Ashton, Tariq and Korbin, have shown an interest to play for the Bati.
