THE Taveuni Empowerment Women's Support group is planning to hold the island's first fashion show soon.
Group leader Volau Yavalanavanua said women on the island were keen to hold such a show and that talks had started for the event.
Mrs Yavalanavanua said the event would be held in partnership with the Ministry of Women.
"We are encouraging all women on the island and those fashion enthusiasts outside the island to join in the event and help women on the island realise the lucrativeness of the clothing textile industry," she said.
"Those candidates wishing to enter the competition may do so by contacting our office on the island and the only requirement is that all materials used are washable.
"It will be a private fete where people will pay for their entries to the show and it will take place on the 6th of next month."
Mrs Yavalanavanua said the event would be a good platform for women on the island to showcase their talents on sewing and their potential in the fashion industry.
"We have those talents but they are never showcased so this will be a good opportunity and platform for them."
