DESPITE the heavy downpour experienced in Labasa over the weekend, stallholders at the Festival of the Friendly North have experienced a boost in business operations.
The hot sun yesterday helped to dry up Subrail Park and brought smiles to the vendors as people thronged in to take advantage of the amusement rides, food, drinks and other exciting activities.
For Ba businessman Nitiya Nand Sharma, being part of the Vodafone-sponsored festival for about 13 years was indeed profitable.
"I have been coming to this festival for 13 years now and I can say that it's really good for business given the huge number of people coming in to take advantage of the things offered here," Mr Sharma said.
"Despite the transportation cost, I make good money from here and I hope to earn more in the nights ahead."
Another stallholder Vani Romi said the festival was not only a time of fun and excitement but also to earn extra money for her family.
Festival committee president Hazeem Hussein said the festivity mood was back on after the weather improved.
"We look forward to a more enjoyable and exciting week and we hope the public will continue to come out in large numbers to support this worthy cause," Mr Hussein said.
