NAVNEIL Maharaj won the Coastal Rentals Six Reds league tournament at the South Seas Club in Lautoka last week.
The HFC business finance officer upset David Reddy 2-0 in the final.
In the semi-final Reddy beat North West Billiards and Snooker Association president Suresh Chauhan 2-0 while Maharaj beat Nitesh Chand 2-1.
The win has pushed Maharaj to third position on the ranking points table behind leader Tony Cen and second placed Philip Gock.
Chauhan said Maharaj was impressive beating the top guns.
"He beat David who won the last national rankings championship and Nitesh the runner-up," Chauhan said.
"The Six Reds game is unpredictable. This type of game doesn't only create competitiveness but also introduces interested people to start playing the sport.
"Now we have club members participating in tournaments at the different clubs where they are not members. The clubs benefit in generating funds weekly for their sports body as well. Players are keen to strive to be in the top four to qualify for the knockout event."
At the Lautoka Club, Nitesh took out the title. He beat Reddy 2-1 in an interesting final. Nites defeated Chauhan 2-0 in the semi-final while Reddy defeated Vikrant Sharma 2-1.
Ismail Wali was the winner of the event at the Ba Central Club. He defeated Raymond Reddy 2-0 in the final.
Wali beat Shaneel Prasad 2-0 in the semi-final while Reddy accounted for Ashok Kumar by the same scoreline.
