SIXTEEN communities including Savudrodro Village in Cakaudrove have been declared violence free with 48 more communities expected to join the campaign.
Minister for Women Doctor Jiko Luveni said the response from the communities were positive.
Dr Luveni said more communities had queued up to join the campaign and realised that violence against women and children was no longer an issue that could be ignored.
"NGO's have responded with requests on wanting to work with the department towards this violence free community and partnering to eliminate violence against women and children in their program," she said.
"Communities especially women have appreciated the fact that there is a program in place to address issues of violence against women at community level.
"Men have learnt the fact that domestic violence is a crime."
Dr Luveni said women had learnt about the legislations in place like the Domestic Violence Decree and Child Welfare Decree that provided greater protection to the women and children.
