LABASA Town special administrator Vijay Chand yesterday called on the people on Vanua Levu to support the Friendly North Festival.
He said the poor turnout at the opening ceremony held at Subrail Park should never happen because funds raised at the carnival benefitted the community.
"To those organisations that may have missed the opportunity to support the carnival this year, remember, this is one way to promote your business or existence in your town and I would like to request you to consider giving your support in next year's carnival," he said.
"Remember it's all for a good cause where proceeds are directed towards improving living standard in the North.
"At the council, we feel we are obliged to support a cause which allows the entire community of Vanua Levu to benefit. We consider this as one of our community outreach program, which we try to make as participatory as possible."
Mr Chand praised the carnival committee for its commitment and dedication towards beautification projects in town.
"I would like to share my thoughts on the excellent service work the carnival committee has undertaken to support services of Labasa and Savusavu town councils," he said
"For the past four years the carnival committee has continuously set aside $10,000 per year to see that our town is provided with the necessary project towards beautification.
"The organisers of the carnival have definitely left a legacy in terms of development and we see this as a testimony to what can be achieved through dedication, sacrifice and hard work."
