A FIJI Indo Rugby 7s tournament is being organised in a bid to increase the number of Indo Fijian players playing rugby.
The day-long event is scheduled for September 28 at the Bidesi Park in Laucala.
Tournament organising committee member Kelvin Anthony said they wanted to include new players in their system to help with the development of the sport.
There are only six active 7s Indo Fijians rugby clubs in the country but with no registered fifteens team.
Anthony said while Indo Fijians were supportive of rugby, they did not actively involve themselves in the sport.
"It's the participation which is the issue here.
"We have Indo Fijians who are rugby supporters but when it comes to participation, there are just a few," he said.
"The aim is to increase our player base.
"Holding more tournaments of this kind depends on the interest in this upcoming event."
Anthony said they were expecting eight teams in this inaugural tournament.
Entry fee is $50 per team and closes on September 14.
Nakasi Highlanders, Wainibuka Eels, Suva, Naitasiri, Nadi and Lautoka are some regular clubs taking part in the Indo 7s competition.
