STUDENTS of Hilton Special School took to the Hibiscus main stage earlier this week.
One of the participants explained, in sign language as the master of ceremony translated, that they were proud to promote wellness to the nation.
"We have not let our circumstances stop us from leading a healthy lifestyle," the participant said.
"We stand tall before you today to prove to the whole world that regardless of how you are born, you can choose to make a difference in your life.
"To all those who feel that we should be hidden away, that we should be objects of your sympathy, we say to you, we are here to prove you wrong."
Performing to this year's Hibiscus theme — Pacific Wellness, Treasure Life, Choose Health — some students danced while others held up placards which read Disability is not inability and Include us — do not exclude us.
The crowd rose to their feet to applaud the performers and were appreciative of their skill given that a number of them had hearing impairments and were unable to hear the music they were dancing to.
