A NADI family is mourning the loss of a six-year-old boy who was killed in a road accident on Thursday night.
And police are hunting for the driver involved.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the victim had accompanied his 18-year-old cousin to the shop and while returning, he allegedly ran across the road to the footpath on the opposite side when the accident occurred.
She said the victim was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
"Anyone with information that could help locate or identify the vehicle involved is requested to contact your nearest community post or station or 917," said Ms Naisoro.
"With a lot of movement expected over the next 48 hours, people are being reminded to take care of their safety on our roads.
"This is particularly so for our children with the holidays taking place, as well as the major social and sporting activities where our children are involved."
The road death toll stands at 24 compared to 28 for the same period last year.
