DIETITIANS at the Labasa Hospital have been encouraged to visit mothers clubs in the area and educate members about preparing healthy meals.
During his visit to the hospital yesterday, Minister for Health Doctor Neil Sharma told dietitians it was important to visit mothers in their homes and teach them the basic steps of preparing healthy meals.
"All mothers' clubs should be visited once in a fortnight," Dr Sharma said.
"Make an appointment and at least spend two hours with them for the purpose of educating them on the food portion sizes, cooking methods and the importance of preparing good and healthy meals for the family.
"Teach mothers how to use less salt and fats while preparing meals and how to prepare their children's lunches for school.
"When this visit is done, it's also good to monitor and evaluate the progress of the mothers. This sort of exercise is good because it will result in a healthy lifestyle."
