"WE are headed to Macuata next year."
These were the words of Susana Liga, president of the Fiji Primary Schools Netball Association as the primary schools netball tournament came to an end in Lautoka on Wednesday.
Liga said the move was part of taking netball to the outer islands and giving students more exposure to the sport.
"The two days have been wonderful and as we saw today (Wednesday), Yasawa came and they won the under-14 grade which is a tremendous feat and tells us the sport needs to be taken more to the outer islands," she said.
Liga said team Yasawa had registered a week before the tournament started and they had to accommodate the team.
"Despite coming from one of the outer islands, we saw they came out in full force, which is exactly what we need from these students.
"This year was a very good year for primary schools netball and I absolutely commend Lautoka for being such fine hosts.
"This will be hard to topple come the tournament next year but we are hoping for the best."
Plans are also in the pipeline to gather more sponsors for the tournament and Liga said if they do acquire sponsors, it would be a great boost for the sport.
"The tournament this year was incredible — we had an increase in the number of participants and if we go out to the outer islands next year, we hope the numbers will increase further."
