LABASA Special School student Esther Maiviva is among the 500 Girl Guide primary school students who gathered in Labasa for their annual camp.
The 11-year-old lass did not hide her excitement as she joined several other friends from various schools in the country for activities that were part of the camping schedule.
Esther said the camp had been an exciting one where she learnt a lot.
"I was at the pool yesterday for water safety training and later joined the personnel at the Labasa Fire Station for fire safety lessons," she said.
"I think the most exciting bit about the camp was the hiking expedition.
"In Fiji, we normally take advantage of the water, fire and our forests from which many continue to perish because they fail to harness these natural elements," the 11-year-old said.
Esther said she had even learnt how precious the forests were and their role in ensuring the balance of nature.
"Water and fire is something that children around country normally play around with.
"If not handled properly, these two elements can also cause deaths, so the educational tours were really enlightening for me," she said.
