AN art troupe from Chongqing province in China staged two cultural performances as part of the Vodafone Fiji Hibiscus Festival celebrations.
The Chongqing Song and Dance Troupe arrived in Fiji to promote cultural exchanges and friendship between China and Fiji, according to the Chinese Embassy.
They performed at the Suva Civic Centre and on Asian Night at Hibiscus Festival on Monday and Tuesday. Group dances such as Impression on Opera Arts, Beautiful Women and Welcome to Chongqing were performed by the troupe, as well as a demonstration of traditional Chinese musical instruments such as a pipa solo, a flute solo and erhu solo.
Martial arts were also on show, with boxing, swords and sticks and Chinese Kungfu wowing the audiences. The dance troupe was founded in 1949 and has created a number of award-winning dance works in China, including the Chongqing Best Stage Arts Awards from 2009-12.
