NEWLY-appointed British High Commissioner to Fiji Roderick Drummond is looking forward to his posting.
Mr Drummond, who arrived in the country on Sunday, is from Dundee, Scotland and was educated at Edinburgh University.
"I've been in the Foreign Service since 1985, and I've been posted to a lot of places, mainly in the Middle East, such as Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Syria and I've also worked in Algeria and South Africa," Mr Drummond told this newspaper.
He said Fiji and the UK had many shared interests and he was looking forward to working with Fiji to achieve these goals during his three-year tenure.
"I understand how close (Fiji's relationship with the UK) has been in the past and I want to continue that moving forward."
This is his first time in Fiji and he said his first impressions were that the country, its parks and gardens were "absolutely beautiful".
Mr Drummond used to play amateur rugby and also enjoys golf and tennis.
