A FORMER employee of the Ministry of Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics who was charged with one count of theft has been handed a 12-month sentence.
Taina Radrokai, 45, will spend six months in prison while the balance of her term has been suspended for 24 months.
Radrokai was employed with the ministry as a senior clerical officer of the accounts section in 2012 when she stole $8593.86, the salary of a former employee of the ministry who now works in Manila.
In August last year, Kemueli Naiqama left the ministry to join the Asian Development Bank in Manila.
His salary, however, was still being prepared by the ministry even after his departure.
An internal investigation was conducted and it was discovered the accused had received the $8593.86 and made out a receipt under Mr Naiqama's name.
