AIRPORTS Fiji Limited officials in Labasa have made it its business to inspect the Waiqele tarmac on a quarterly basis to ensure birds do not flock unnecessarily in the area.
AFL general manager Lawrence Liew said officials from the airside section participated in an exercise to remove birds from the airdrome.
"There are mostly two reasons birds are seen at airdromes and one of them is food," Mr Liew said.
"We strictly ask visiting and travelling public to refrain from throwing food in or around the airport premises.
"In our fire station and flight information services areas, compound staff are discouraged from throwing leftover foods and we also ensure the wastes are disposed in designated areas."
