Update: 5:30PM FOLLOWING a complete audit process, LTA has finally come to a conclusion that the series of bus fires in the country was because of electrical faults triggered by tempering of manufacturer settings.
This was revealed by authority CEO Naisa Tuinaceva during a press conference at LTA office in Valelevu, Nasinu today.
Mr Tuinaceva said the audit revealed the number of bus fires in the country for the past few months was a result of tempering of electrical wires, overloading of electrical components, unapproved electrical fittings and wires used inside buses were not of proper strength.
And to counter the increased number of bus fires in the country, the authority has launched a Quality Assurance Management System for bus operators which will introduce a systematic and transparent approach to all operational aspects of the industry.
The system will force operators to ensure daily safety checks such as vehicle inspection, maintaining of drivers' log books and proper set-up of garages for maintenance works.
Meanwhile, 35 of 52 buses belonging to the Nasese Buses Limited have been released after being grounded for almost a week.
