A GROUP of future church leaders from Lakeba, Lau is visiting Lautoka to experience first-hand the issues faced in urban areas.
The students of Gaunavou Mission School met street children and visited major businesses during their five-day stay in the Sugar City.
Reverend Sekaia Siwata said the students were surprised at the different lifestyles in urban areas.
"The majority of these students are in Lautoka for the first time. The main purpose of coming is to let the students explore life in Fiji, especially in urban areas," he said.
"They are being moulded to become future church leaders and they need to know what is happening around them as they have been living in the comfort of their homes in the islands all their lives."
Mr Siwata said the tour was the first of its kind by the school. "We collected more than $5000 for the funding of this trip through fundraising activities and assistance from individuals."
The students return to Lakeba on Friday.
