GIRL Guides from primary schools around Fiji visited various locations within Labasa Town yesterday as part of their annual camping activities.
Students visited the Labasa Fire Station and the Labasa swimming pool.
Group leader Dimae Valetini said other groups were involved in hiking and awareness programs carried out by various government departments in the North.
"All these activities are crucial as part of building up our Guides' knowledge and skills," she said.
"Other groups have proceeded on to Korovatu beach for hiking and other activities.
"For most of the girls, this is their first trip ever to the North and these activities will make their experience a memorable one."
Eleven-year-old Labasa Special School student Esther Shalom was all smiles as she joined her friends to learn about water safety tips at the Labasa swimming pool.
"I have already learnt about water safety but it is more fun and special when we are doing it with new friends that I have come to know during this camp," Esther said.
"Swimming lessons is something that we in Fiji take lightly and as a result, our drowning toll continue to escalate.
"This is a good time to learn swimming and water safety tips and I encourage other children to try and take swimming lessons from instructors during this school holiday."
