FIFTEEN bouts took place in the first amateur boxing program initiated by the Boxing Commission of Fiji.
The program was held at the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) hall in Nabua last night.
Commission director Malakai Veisamasama said the number was an overwhelming response in their bid to revive amateur boxing in Fiji.
He said they would hold Monday night fights every week before moving to the West and eventually to the North by the end of this year.
"We could only accommodate 30 boxers in our first week and the rest have been slotted in next week's program," Veisamasama said.
"One good thing about the participants is they come from different ethnic backgrounds. We have Fijians of Indian descent, islanders and other races part of the program."
Veisamasama said the highlight of last night's bouts was the battle between Davendra Singh from Qelekuru, Tailevu, and Josefa Brown of USP in the super heavyweight division. Singh is coached by former champion Pita Tabuarua.
