THE national road death toll has increased to 23 after an eight-year-old boy died in a fatal accident at Namau, Ba, on Sunday morning.
This is compared to 20 for the same period last year.
Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the victim was travelling in a carrier when the accident happened.
"The carrier driven by a 41-year-old Nadroga man went off the road and tumbled whilst transporting grog to the Ba market from Navaga Village," Ms Naisoro said.
"The deceased was sitting at the front seat where he was allegedly thrown out of the vehicle when the vehicle tumbled."
Ms Naisoro said the other five passengers were treated and released except for a 36-year-old who was still under observation.
She said investigation into the matter had started.
Meanwhile, 26-year-old security officer Soliki Lakalaka of Vomo St, Lautoka, has been reported missing since August 3.
Ms Naisoro said checks made with relatives in Suva and Lautoka proved futile.
"Anyone with information that could help locate the missing persons is requested to contact their nearest community post, station or 917."
